Auto Responders:
This is the term used for computer generated responses that are sent automatically from a specified e-mail address you send to. An AutoResponder address is
not valid to SEND e-mail to. For example, when you subscribe to my newsletter, an Auto Response is sent to you thanking you for your subscription, and giving you information how to remove your name from the mailing list as well. |

Attachments to E-mail:
The body of the e-mail itself contains text, which can include active "links" (addresses on the Internet or e-mail addresses). You can double click
on a link, and you'll end up with a blank e-mail message form automatically addressed to the person shown on the "link", or your Internet browswer will open and take you to the address on the world wide web.But.. a
variety of items may also be "attached" to e-mail. Pictures, bits of sound (waves), programs, documents & spreadsheets, etc. The size of the e-mail includes the size of these attachments, with the
recommendation to keep it at 500k or below. AND.... the concept of attachments leads directly into the danger of a "virus". |
|
|
|
Viruses from E-mail:
Viruses can be very destructive and harmful to your system. There are many ways you can get a virus-they range all the way from opening an
e-mail attachment named "This_Isn't_a_virus" to simply giving someone access to your computer who may install software with a virus. If you get an e-mail from people you don't know or even people you
DO know, and they have a message with attachments that say "Here's the file you asked for" and you did not ask for a file- don't open it. Some can actually overwrite your hard drive and send it to your friends
(not a good way to keep friends). So just use common sense. note: if an e-mail attachment contains a virus, and you don't open the attachment... you won't get the virus. Just delete the e-mail
and the attachment will be deleted with it. |

Chain Letters:
Welcome to the world where chain letters abound, probably due to the cost of the "stamp" <free>. You will see chain letters that guarantee you luck if
you simply forward it to 10 people.. to multi level marketing schemes. There are people who enjoy "chain letters". Personally, I'm not one of them. I usually delete them unread. My
point? If you enjoy chain letters... have fun (but don't spam) If you don't, just delete them with no guilt <s> |
