Internet Explorer Favorites

The quickest way to add a Favorite web page in Internet Explorer is to RIGHT click on the web page, and choose Add to Favorites.  This method simply adds the Favorite to the bottom of the list in your Favorites folder. You really should try to organize your bookmarks from the start though - it’s much easier to find them later.

IE Favorite MenuUse the file menu option of the Add to Favorites instead.

Click on the word Favorites in the menu, then choose Add to Favorites. This opens a new dialog box.

IE Add Favorite Dialog BoxWhere do you want to save this Favorite?

Create a new category folder by clicking on the New Folder button and giving it a name of the topic (humor, cooking, MP3s - whatever one of your interests is).

Is the name of the web page something you will recognize in the future? You can change the name of the page by clicking in the Name box, and editing the title for your own reference.

The folder you just created should be highlighted/selected.  When you have the page name to your liking, just click OK.

If you have a folder already set up for your Favorite, simply highlight the folder, edit the page name if you wish, then click OK.

Hint: You can create folders inside of folders for even more organization. You might create a main folder called Travel, then sub folders for hotels, maps, airlines, etc.

To revisit any of your Favorites, Internet Explorer offers two options:

  • Click on the Favorites word in the menu.  This opens up a list of all your favorite folders and unfiled favorites at the bottom of the list.  Open the folder, and click on the web site you want to revisit.
  • Click on the Favorites button IE Favorites Buttonin the toolbar.  This opens a companion window to the left of your browser window with the list of your favorite folders and unfiled favorites at the bottom of the list. Open the folder, and click on the web site you want to revisit. This companion window remains open until you close it with the X at the top of that window.
