Netscape Bookmarks

The quickest way to bookmark a page in Netscape Netscape Bookmarkis to RIGHT click on the web page, and choose Add Bookmark.  This method simply adds the bookmark to the bottom of the list in your bookmark folder. The same is true when you open the Bookmarks menu from the toolbar and click Add Bookmark.  You really should try to organize your bookmarks from the start though - it’s much easier to find them later.

The next level of organization is to use the File Bookmarks command. Netscape comes preset with a number of topic folders, with suggested bookmarks already in them. You can click File Bookmark, and then select the folder you want the bookmark in for easy retrieval later.

To be the most organized, though, you should go into the Edit Bookmarks dialog box.  Don’t wait until you have a bookmark to add - set up your folders ahead of time!

  • Click on the Bookmarks button in your browser, then select Edit Bookmarks. This opens the dialog box.
  • First go through and look at the folders and their contents. Expand any folders by clicking the + key before its name. Delete any bookmarks or entire folders you don’t want.  All you have to do to delete a bookmark or folder is to select/highlight it, and press the Delete key on your keyboard. If you delete any by mistake, you can use the Edit/Undo command to put it back.
  • Now click on the File menu, and select New Folder.  Give it a category name - humor, cooking, MP3s - whatever one of your interests is.
  • Repeat adding folders with different category names until you have a good selection. You might want to add one that says “Misc-Sort Later”.
  • Move the folders around to put them in the order you want by clicking and dragging them. You can add separators between them if you like using the File/New Separator command (the separator will go below the highlighted folder). Hint: The Help file accessed from this dialog box is also fairly friendly.
  • When you are through close the Edit Bookmark dialog box.

The next time you want to add a Bookmark, select the File Bookmark from the Bookmark menu, then add it to one of the folders you have set up.

You can also rename and add notes about bookmarks any time from the Edit Bookmarks menu,  Highlight the bookmark, choose Edit Bookmark, then Bookmark Properties.

To revisit any of your bookmarks, simply click on the Bookmarks button in the browser, select the folder, locate the bookmark, and click on it.
